Fast sell:
Alchemist brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric are back for more action-packed adventures in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, a hugely popular retelling of the Fullmetal Alchemist story that stays truer to Hiromu Arakawa's manga. This Complete Series Collection features all 64 episodes of the critically-acclaimed steampunk series, making it a must-have box set for anime fans everywhere.
Key talent:
Animated by Studio Bones, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is directed by Yasuhiro Irie. The Elric brothers are played by a leading duo of Japanese voice actors - Edward is voiced by Romi Park (Naruto; Bleach; Mobile Suit Gundam 00) while Rie Kugimiya (Shakugan no Shana; Hayate the Combat Butler; Toradora!) plays Alphonse. Ed's English voice actor is the prolific Vic Mignogna.
Synopsis:
Set in the militaristic state of Amestris, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood opens with brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric attempting to bring their mother back to life using a forbidden alchemical technique. The process backfires horrifically, however; literally costing Ed an arm and a leg, and leaving Al’s disembodied soul bound to a suit of armour. Once their friend Winry Rockbell fits Ed with a set of weaponised prostheses known as automail, the siblings set off in search of the legendary Philosopher's Stone so that they can undo their mistakes and recover Al’s body.
After becoming a State Alchemist at the behest of ambitious colonel Roy Mustang, Ed discovers that others are trying to get their hands on the fabled Philosopher's Stone as well; most notably Scar, a rebel out for revenge on the alchemists who annihilated his people, and a mysterious group of human-like creatures called homunculi. And as if that wasn't enough, Amestris’ autocratic ruler - the grandiosely-titled Fuhrer President King Bradley - is also interesting himself in the Elrics’ affairs…
We like it because:
It's rare that a reboot can top a classic series, but we reckon Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood does just that. Featuring amazing animation, slick action scenes, a memorable cast of characters and a gripping storyline that stays faithful to Hiromu Arakawa's original manga, the 64 exciting episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Complete Series Collection are shonen anime at its best.
